There are only two file formats: disguised zips and renamed text files.

    JSON? Text.
    EPUB? Zip.
    CSV? Text.
    EXE? Zip.
    SVG? Text.
    DOCX? Zip.
    ICS? Text.
    APK? Zip.

Browsers on video game consoles have long been a majorly underdocumented topic. That changes today with my latest article, which I can confidently say is the most comprehensive game console browser coverage on the entire web.

I'd love for you to give it a read: vale.rocks/posts/game-c...

A thread, because things are feeling rough at present. ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ‘‡

I'm not quite sure where to go or what to do. I'm watching my peers slowly burn out, go quiet, quit the industry, or struggle on hoping it'll get better in time. Even if the storm is weathered, what comes out the other side?

The sudden sinking feeling when you're given a codebase to work on, then you notice the HTML tags are all written in uppercase, that there is no document declaration, and that there are conditional comments for Internet Explorer.

Vercel got pwned, so here is another prompt to stop using them.

Entirely unrelated, but here is a picture of Vercel's CEO with Netanyahu, the man responsible for the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

I released some 88x31 web buttons/badges for various Git forges which are hopefully useful for folks leaving GitHub.

(I also released badges for @stoat.chat and @listenbrainz.org)

Proud to announce TechConf.Directory, a directory of tech conferences around the globe.

I've found it quite difficult to find conferences. That is true no more!

I've made all the data fully open and available via a fully queryable API as well.

Oops. Just dropped this. Slipped out my pocket. No relation to anything Chrome may or may not be doing with a certain AI-related API that they're forcing out. Complete coincidence.

I imagine the hardest part of this project was having to kill God so that you'd be unhampered by divine intervention stopping you from bringing this affront to the natural order to fruition.

A dystopian new addition I unfortunately felt it prudent to implement on TechConf.Directory.

A rant in the face of the industry's continued neglect and outright hostility towards digital accessibility and care for users.

Looking for a front-of-the-front-end developer who works close to the web platform? Or perhaps someone to write some words on the matter?

I've got some freelance availability as of next week, so get in contact.

My contact details, portfolio, and other such things can be found over at vale.rocks

There is so much fresh uncertainty following Google I/O, and I think it will take us all a while to process it and understand what it means.

Game console interfaces used to be detailed and assembled with care. Now they're nothing more than a collection of rounded squares.

I wrote about the death of distinct game console interfaces and how they all feel so empty and clinical now:

It should be illegal to have hold music with an imperfect loop, such that it cuts off for a brief moment and fills you with a fleeting period of hope before throwing you back to the wait.

    Happy New Year, folks!

@strange.website kicked over the ol' personalsit.es build a brief while ago, so it is the place to go if you need some inspiration for your new year website redesign. nudge nudge

I lent a hand reviewing and have manually checked every site listed. There are some proper gems!

So much new CSS stuff has hit the web in the past few years, and the CSS reset I was using has aged, so it was time for a refresh.

This new reset isn't too extensively battle-tested just yet, but it has proven a success where I have used it.

I plan to make a great deal more, but these are what I've got so far.

    HTML. CSS. JavaScript.

Long ago, the three nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when The Frameworks attacked.

I couldn't help myself. I've made some more funky web buttons to adorn websites with!

They're such fun to put together, and the size constraint presents a lovely challenge. If anyone has any requests, I'd be open to hearing them.
