The sudden sinking feeling when you're given a codebase to work on, then you notice the HTML tags are all written in uppercase, that there is no document declaration, and that there are conditional comments for Internet Explorer.
I imagine the hardest part of this project was having to kill God so that you'd be unhampered by divine intervention stopping you from bringing this affront to the natural order to fruition.
To catch everyone up:
- Voice chat 2.0 is here
- We rebranded from Revolt in Oct
- Screenshare is very far along
- E2EE is planned
- Fresher branding very soon
- The platforn is in active development
- Clients are being improved
- We put you first, but must still comply with laws where applicable
Browsers on video game consoles have long been a majorly underdocumented topic. That changes today with my latest article, which I can confidently say is the most comprehensive game console browser coverage on the entire web.
I'd love for you to give it a read: vale.rocks/posts/game-c...
It should be illegal to have hold music with an imperfect loop, such that it cuts off for a brief moment and fills you with a fleeting period of hope before throwing you back to the wait.
A thread, because things are feeling rough at present. ๐งต๐
I'm not quite sure where to go or what to do. I'm watching my peers slowly burn out, go quiet, quit the industry, or struggle on hoping it'll get better in time. Even if the storm is weathered, what comes out the other side?
I released some 88x31 web buttons/badges for various Git forges which are hopefully useful for folks leaving GitHub.
(I also released badges for @stoat.chat and @listenbrainz.org)
Vercel got pwned, so here is another prompt to stop using them.
Entirely unrelated, but here is a picture of Vercel's CEO with Netanyahu, the man responsible for the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Glad everyone here is enjoying the logo! I had a ton of fun designing it!
A lot of it was done in direct consultation with the community. Was my pleasure!
I couldn't help myself. I've made some more funky web buttons to adorn websites with!
They're such fun to put together, and the size constraint presents a lovely challenge. If anyone has any requests, I'd be open to hearing them.

I've been putting together a collection of web badges/buttons after being nerd sniped by @strange.website.
I plan to make a great deal more, but these are what I've got so far.

'Hi. Yeah, it's me. I couldn't help but notice when I opened the folder you sent me that boss music started playing, and in the distance I heard what I think might be the eternal screams of the damned. Can you just confirm this is expected behaviour?'
You can't put important links exclusively in your site's footer if you have infinite scroll.

Please stop.
So much new CSS stuff has hit the web in the past few years, and the CSS reset I was using has aged, so it was time for a refresh.
This new reset isn't too extensively battle-tested just yet, but it has proven a success where I have used it.

I'm moving off GitHub. My move has been underway for ages but has really picked up speed recently with all the outages and such.
Some details here: vale.rocks/micros/20260...

Personally extremely disappointed to see Mozilla proudly and cheerfully announcing that Firefox is active again on X (formerly Twitter).
Proud to announce TechConf.Directory, a directory of tech conferences around the globe.
I've found it quite difficult to find conferences. That is true no more!
I've made all the data fully open and available via a fully queryable API as well.

With the review I performed today, there are now over a thousand personal sites listed on PersonalSit.es! A thousand! Proper bonkers! What a milestone! ๐ฅณ ๐

Publishing pixel art on the web? Don't let it get blurred and smushed.
Apply the `image-rendering: crisp-edges` CSS property. Alternatively, export your pixel art at a higher resolution, so each visual pixel is made of many pixels, minimising impact from scaling and compression.

Oh, making an accessible website is too complex for you to bother? Sounds like you aren't very good at your job then, eh?

It is gutting to feel I'd see greater success if I didn't care who I worked for, gave up on my morals, and embraced the latest harmful fad. Grifting has long been a thing, but at present it seems there aren't any consequences beyond one's own conscience and that it is the optimal way to make a buck.
What is this 'URL' you speak of?
