Saw a patient in urgent care last night who was sobbing because she’d recently learned she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer, and now she was struggling to afford the treatment.

We need Medicare for All.

Let’s say this again.

Read this carefully, line-by-line, so you don’t forget.

Gender affirming care is not harmful to patients.

In fact, it’s actually shown to REDUCE rates of suicide in transgender people by up to 70%.

Bluesky… assemble.

I’m so immensely tired of living in a world where someone with enough money can just buy whatever the fuck they want and ruin it for the rest of us.

No kings in the City of Angels

I found out today that ICE was at the hospital where I trained for residency.

I am not ok.

In the 3 years I trained there I’ve seen hundreds upon hundreds of undocumented patients, and to think that any one of them could have been picked up today is absolutely devastating.

I didn’t know that LAX had a vending machine for sewing supplies

There’s not a single person whose life isn’t in some way touched by immigrants.

They’re the farm workers picking your food.
They’re the healthcare workers treating you when you’re sick.
They build, clean, fix & sell everything you use.

Immigrants run this country, & they’re as American as anyone.

Responding to climate change isn’t just about solar panels and EVs

It’s about access to clean drinking water
It’s about access to shaded outdoor spaces
It’s about access to N95s during wildfires
It’s about checking in with vulnerable populations during heatwaves

It's really hard to tell at this point but I think years from now this will be one of the most destructive things that RFK Jr did at HHS.

Mammograms, FIT tests and colonoscopies, diabetes, blood pressure, depression screens. All of these are as widely available as they are because of USPSTF.

Elizabeth Jacobs, PhD @elizabethjacobs.bsky.social

RFK Jr. has now officially stated that he will dismantle the United States Preventive ServicesTask Force (USPSTF). This is an independent body of expert scientists who volunteer their time to review data and provide guidance to Americans on important things like cancer screenings.

Exclusive | RFK Jr. to Oust Advisory Panel on Cancer Screenings, HIV Prevention Drugs

The task force determines which preventive services insurers must cover at no cost to patients.

So glad we have more physicians like @drannieandrews.com running for office right now.

And not gonna lie, it’s pretty cool to see a candidate for senate using a “Pediatrics” label from @medsky.social

Paying out of pocket for the COVID booster at CVS currently costs $190. It is ridiculous how prohibitively expensive getting vaccinated is at the moment, and it’s these financial barriers that can lead to worse waves of COVID infections. #Medsky #FMsky

I feel like it should probably be a bigger story that the justice department just released potentially dozens of unredacted CSAM photos with the faces of the victims visible

Transgender people aren’t dangerous.

You know the people who ARE dangerous?

The ones who spew bigoted bullshit while demonizing and forcing other people into a living hell day in and day out where they don’t have control of their medical autonomy.

Bluesky team right now

You're going to hear stories about MacArthur Park in LA & how it's a "hotbed of historic lawlessness" and as a street med doc who's worked there, that's not the Mac Park I know.
