So sad to see that Sam Neill died. I sat next to him on a plane from NZ to Sydney. He was so kind, let me hang in the airport lounge w him (!), told me about his animals, and gave recs on what to do in Sydney and drew me a little map of how to get to Bondi. And was so gracious to fans who said hi.
My parents' lifelong insistence on only eating cooked vegetables and peeled fruit makes so much sense now.
There are lots of reasons to love Saka but honestly this is mine

This is such a good essay and deserves re-upping every few months. I've referred so many people to it in the past 5+ years.

Other fun translations I'm finding: SpongeBob SquarePants is "Bob L'Eponge" and Strawberry Shortcake is "Charlotte aux Fraises" (which is actually pretty clever)
Our Missing Hearts is not a dystopia, exhibit #971.

TIL: the French title of "To Kill a Mockingbird" is apparently the rather reproving "Don't Shoot at a Mockingbird"
The sky sure is a weird color today
By far the least fun of the variations I've seen, but for a very good cause (thank you for writing about this)
Genuinely very charismatic but also just a very nice and normal person, the one time I got to meet him.
Like 15 min in my soccer-loving husband said "this ref is doing a bad job and someone's gonna get hurt" and all signs point to him being right!
On a normal day: 2-3.5 max. On a retreat, I can do 5-6 but I'm toast after a day or two.
To be fair around that age I had a crush on the animated Robin Hood from the Disney movie
I had the same Q and think it has to do with water retention... a too-big pot will hold excess water in the extra soil and can lead to root rot, whereas in the ground, excess water just drains away? But also curious! (And can confirm that a too-big pot has killed multiple plants at my house...)
