SCOTUS: Trump can't summarily fire Fed governor Lisa Cook, BUT he essentially has the *constitutional* right to fire other agency heads even if Congress created the agency to be independent and limited now leaders can be fired. A gobsmacking expansion of presidential power.

This is devastating, not only in the majority's analysis that contorts the principles of constitutional interpretation beyond all recognition, but also for the way it strips one of the most vulnerable populations in America of the right to live a full and happy life.

But the fact that the ruling was 6-3ish (more like 5 1/2 to 3 1/2) instead of unanimous (or at least 7-2 because there is no accounting for Thomas and Alito) is really, really abominable.

Worth noting that this ruling will be popular with just about everyone except Trump and his diehards because just about everyone, Republicans too, like voting by mail.

I've covered the court for the better part of 20 years. I love my job. But, y'all, sometimes it makes me angry and sad. Profoundly, profoundly sad.
