Malls, anime stores, bookstores, cafes, cafes in bookstores, libraries, teen centers, diners, etc. Maybe 1980/1990's Spokane was a different deal to 1990's/2000's suburban Seattle, but yeah, hung out plenty at The Old Firehouse, Kirkland Teen Center, Crossroads, various Borders & B&Ns, arcades, etc.

As a bonus, they ban the youth from shopping centers, then wonder why they're dying. Like, y'all, it was kids loitering in malls who both:
1. kept the place afloat between holidays.
2. eventually got jobs in the mall once they were old enough because "screw it, I am here anyway."

It is weird to think that if moot leaned into the queer/hacker side of imageboard culture rather than the "start-up venture capital to awful bigot" pipeline, it might have literally shifted elections. That said, wasn't on you to shake sense into a teenager/early 20-something/whatever.

Like, name a mall on the Eastside, I loitered in it at some point between the ages of 13-27. Same for every Denny's, late night Starbucks, 24/7 grocery store and yeah, even hitting up 7-11 and AM/PM at odd hours, albeit usually just on the way back from hanging out with people.

1. formatting clean up
2. trivial bug fixes
3. documentation updates
4. same as above, but to make it easier for his bots to use those libraries

And yeah I cannot understand how much I leveraged the Redmond Library until I got into the mall/teen center/diner/cafe hangouts age. With access from the main bike path right to the library, I churned through every alternative music CD I could reserve in the King County system that I heard on 107.7.

Some of that is getting too old to reasonably move, but a lot of it is they know they'd end up like the Californians ending up in Idaho & Texas - dissatisfied that their fan-fiction perception would run head long into "no shopping, no entertainment, no social circle & fewer family/friend visits."

It's extra juicy when a person has lived in those major cities nearly all of their life, yet still complain, while their kids & relatives live & thrive in large(r) cities too, but the complainer will never leave their city for a small town, even if it'd "save them on taxes." They just wanna grouse.

I'll also note teen centers on the Eastside directly picked up the slack for all-ages concerts due to Seattle's TDO. Many acts played Redmond's Old Firehouse on their way to international notoriety & there were shows at the Kirkland Teen Center, Crossroads Community Center & Crossroads Mall as well.

Plus by the time you're getting to 2001, there's the Vera Project in Seattle which was explicitly founded to fill in the gap on the Westside. Still, can't act like the suburbs didn't hold it down in the 1990s, and again, acts like Death Cab for Cutie & Modest Mouse played Eastside all-ages shows.

To be fair, you're getting the ones that got up and left. It's the folks who hang back on the coasts whining, but wouldn't for a second move even 50 miles out to be another county, let alone another state, that I'm thinking of. They look at options all over, but they don't for a second act on it.
