Niche-case, but, as a black late 90s/early 00s kid, I was called an Oreo™ for liking anime (among other media) that was about like, fantasy-fiction (especially featuring non-black-ppl) instead of grounded, down-to-earth, 20th/21st century fiction about IRL struggles. Especially IRL black struggles.

Another CSP tip because I am a freak and can't help but share: You can and should dock the Quick-Access tool somewhere.

I bring this up because nowadays in the big 2026 the black anime blerd is such a normal thing to be instead of a fringe/alternative thing to be (90's-00s).
I wonder if it was the same for non-black people.

Oh yeah and don't forget art teachers telling everyone across the board "stop drawing anime" even if they were a good chicken nugget and made sure to apply the fundamentals.

It amazes me. It amazes me so much that it makes me feel like I was born too early.
If I had been born in the 00s/10s instead of the 90s/00s, I could have had more anime blerd peers instead of being pushed into the Oreo box and suffering its ripple effects: feeling Not Black Enough as an adult.14 1Jul 27, 2026 -

Like back then you had your black anime fans, especially for that big 3, but I felt like one had own up for it in their media consumption and IRL cultural expression to not be made fun of (and called an Oreo). And god forbid one stray from Toonami / that big 3. Then you're REALLY a geek.

If I yap in first post ppl get intimidated.
OK SO CSP has a brush blending mode (BRUSH ink blending mode, not layer blending mode) called "background" and it lets you paint underneath what you have without swapping layers. Very good for this kind of thing.

I used File > Modifier Key Settings > Tool-Specific Settings to make this sketch crayon skip to its "paint underneath" clone when I hold the ctrl button.
But only for my blob crayon tool. Both blob crayons have to be their own little tool group. Not tool, but tool group.6 0Jul 27, 2026 -

There was definitely a spectrum to it.
Growing up I've had teachers come down on western cartoon styles just as hard, but my sister had an AP art teacher that came down on her for being a weeb, but the classmate who emulated renaissance 2D Disney was the golden child.2 0Jul 27, 2026 -
