Jason @benedictsred.bsky.social and I were watching England v Argentina this week, when my mom spotted David Beckham in the stands. She quite seriously said, "Is that Burt Reynolds?," at which point Jason replied, "Bend it like the Bandit," and that's really all the World Cup news you need

Do you know there are 25 ppl on AL Death Row sentenced to die when their juries ruled otherwise? Pls take a look, this website shows how easily you can get involved in correcting this unconstitutional injustice, which will, in turn save lives! 🧵

Law used to allow a judge to impose the death penalty when a jury ruled against it, but all states banned that except AL. AL banned it but did not apply that retroactively, thus leaving 26 men condemned to death by a judge's decision. There are 25 left. It's easy to do something about this!

If you have no idea who I am talking about when I say Jeffery J Love Lee, here's a link to a prior thread with a link to a prior thread 🤣

From the bottom of my heart to all who read these and do something about it, thank you.

I'll write jokes again soon, I hope. Life has been extraordinary.

Pls, Jeffery Lee and others on AL death row as a result of unconstitutional legal practices and a horrifically unjust "justice" system all the way up to SCUSA deserve a few minutes of our time to take the easy actions listed in the top two websites on this thread. I appreciate you all so much. 💕Lil

Even a former state prosecutor, Circuit Judge, and twice elected Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court believes that to apply the law fairly we must make the ban of judicial override apply retroactively:

The state is now moving to execute J Love Lee again ASAP. More info on judicial override and him here, and I'll include some updates on J Loves case in this thread for those of you following his case. 🧵

    Jeffrey Lee update:
The day after J Love,'s scheduled execution was halted, the state filed for another death warrant. They're furious that the historical ruling finding the AL nitrogen protocol unconstitutional spared his life that day, and they're out for blood. 🧵

Also, TN botched the lethal injection execution of Tony Carruthers so severely two months ago, it was called off and he was left paralyzed on one side. It appears he had a stroke from their torture. Meanwhile, our governor refuses to change anything about their protocol that allowed it

This week Judge Emily Marks ruled against J Love's request to amend an order. The request to set a date for his execution by lethal injection is back on Gov Ivey's desk, in other words, but the fight continues, and we need help! This was prior to that ruling:

Thanks, Rich 💕 I had no idea how common that is till I got involved, though I'm against state killing whether innocent or not. Toforest Johnson is on Alabama death row and EVERYBODY knows he's innocent, including the state.
There's a great podcast series on his case too.
