From interview of Lee Bollinger, 1st Amendment scholar who served as dean of @UMichLaw, president of @UMich, and president of Columbia University.

DOJ is out of control. The crime of impeding federal agents requires physical force. Speaking out against the way ICE is being deployed is not a crime.

18 USC 793(f) makes it a crime to remove national defense information from its proper place through gross negligence. Doesn’t matter whether info was classified. Signal chat is not a proper place.
DOJ leadership has put all Public Integrity Section lawyers into a room with 1 hour to decide who will dismiss Adams indictment or else all will be fired. Sending them strength to stand by their oath, which is to support the Constitution, not the president’s political agenda. 🇺🇸
This is an old formula used by authoritarian regimes. Stoke chaos and blame scapegoats to justify the use of force.
This stream of Kash Patel’s baseless conspiracy theories about FBI on Jan 6 should disqualify him from leading the agency. Thanks to @normeisen.bsky.social and @tomjoscelyn.bsky.social for their work to compile it.

It’s hard to believe a president would time an illegal military attack to distract the public’s attention, but today is the statutory deadline for DOJ to release its report on the Epstein file production. Maybe it is just a coincidence.
Let’s go FBI agents. You know what to do. They can’t fire all of you!
Lawyers Mark Zaid, Norm Eisen, and Nancy Gertner of Democracy Defenders Fund threaten to sue DOJ over fired prosecutors and FBI agents. Your turn, Senate. Bring Bondy and Patel back for more questioning.
Attorney General Pam Bondi tells a member of a co-equal branch of government during a public hearing: “You don’t tell me anything, you washed-up loser lawyer.” The disdain for our own government is appalling. This administration is destroying our democracy.
All Americans owe DC US Attorney Matthew Graves and his staff a debt of gratitude for their work to prosecute the 1,600 defendants who attacked our Capitol on Jan 6, 2021. Political violence cannot be tolerated.

Proud of prosecutors in SDNY and Washington who resigned rather than carry out DAG Emil Bove’s order to dismiss indictment against NYC Mayor Eric Adams.
Integrity > politics and careerism.
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is introducing a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, the case that opened the floodgates to dark money and the buying of elections by billionnaires.
👏👏👏
35 million Americans live in poverty, and yet, this is what our president is focused on.
This statement from AG Bondi is a disgrace. The judge did not “support” terrorists. He decided a case, based on facts and law, finding the requirements of the Alien Enemy Act lacking.
Let’s hope Noem’s purse did not contain her cell phone with any active Signal chats

Here is the oath all executive branch employees take. It is to support and defend the Constitution, not to “implement the president’s agenda.” If the two purposes diverge, the Constitution prevails.
This is a meaningless trick. A court cannot violate rule 6(e), which prohibits public disclosure.
Proud to join almost 1,000 other DOJ alumni supporting those who are standing up for the non-partisan administration of law. The oath we all took is to uphold the Constitution, not to advance a president’s political agenda.

As former national security assistant AG Mary McCord writes, the Senate needs to bring Bondi and Patel back for questions about pardons and purges for Jan 6 rioters. Unless they vow to reverse these firings, their nominations must be rejected.
NIH funding at @UMich supports important medical research, such as extending the life of organs waiting for transplant, advancing treatments for cerebral palsy, and sustaining experimental genetic trials for children with brain cancer.
Thank you to all of our service members and veterans. We appreciate you, your families, and your sacrifices for our country. Wish we were spending millions on you instead of a parade.
