There's a flooding emergency unfolding in Wye River at the moment - listening to the scanner and there are reports that vehicles have been washed out to sea and they are evacuating buildings.
I know the wonderful @nancycato.bsky.social hasn't been around here lately (miss her!) but just noticed this in my feeds for those who aren't aware of just what an amazing woman she is:

Vale to the wonderful, funny and very clever Kerry Greenwood.
Another way too young. Thoughts with David and the rest of her family, friends and cats.

World's going to hell in a handbasket. Here's 3 goslings hatched yesterday guarded by their 3 very stroppy parents.
So, how's your day going?
The Watch & Acts continue to expand, the Little Desert & Gariwerd fires continue to burn.
There are crews heading in all directions.
Just because it cooled down in the other Victoria doesn't mean it's quiet in this one.

Gotta learn to listen more carefully - Littleproud said "he was buggered" not the more obvious line "that he'd buggered everything up". Right. Got it now.

Today's highlighted review is Finders Keepers by Natalie Barelli tinyl.co/4M1X
Is the best praise you can have for a book the immediate seeking out of the author's back catalogue?

Bloody hell - well done Sussan - not being marriageable fodder for the likes of him is a policy I can support (never thought I'd be saying anything like that to a Lib ....)

Ages ago I read a book about The Myall Creek Massacre by Mark Tedeschi, a sobering experience, although I learned a bit about en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Pl... who was both devoutly religious and wedded to the separation of church and state. We need a lot more of him and a lot less of the zealots.
And from here in drought ridden regional Victoria, we're not even vaguely choked up about net zero, in fact we'd bloody like some action on climate change so we didn't have to live through climate extremes and massive bushfires.
Heading into 40 and 40+ days so we all need to keep getting out there to monitor for fire, bird and stock welfare and keep an eye out for distressed wildlife because of the drought.

I "love" how Regressives (was Conservatives) want to drag everything back to the Australia of my forebears - men in charge / women in despair / repression as far as the eye could see. Happy times... Why not bring back overcooked lamb chops & boiled veggies 6 nights a week while we're at it

This push away from progressive politics worldwide, the rise of the uber conservative, authoritarian, how's that working out for everyone? Feeling safer, happier, siloed, controlled, down trodden, abused, stressed, exhausted. Have we had enough now to work that thing about learning from history yet?
