Sen. Booker to Todd Blanche: "Your nomination should fail. The Attorney General's client is not the president, it's the American people. You've been protecting one person for most of your career…You should not be confirmed to this job."
Rep. Jacobs: "Are Americans better off when the Strait of Hormuz is open or closed?"
Mike Waltz: "The American economy is largely unaffected by the Strait of Hormuz."
Rep. Jacobs: "My constituents who are paying thousands of dollars more in costs because of this war would beg to differ."
Sen. Mark Kelly: "The president got into this without a strategic goal…At first this was about regime change, then it became about nuclear weapons, then about ballistic missiles, then about the navy. They're flailing."
"What the federal government has been doing to people assumed to be immigrants is different from normal police brutality. It is a targeted campaign. We are witnessing, for the first time since Jim Crow, American death squads."
Sen. Ossoff: "They worked harder burying the Epstein files than they ever worked to lower your grocery bill. And while you pay more for everything, the Trumps are raking in billions from all over the world."
Haberman: "Last year the administration signed a critical minerals mining deal with Kazakhstan for a U.S. company...Six days before the deal was signed...the president's older sons with other partners took a 20% investment in a company related. What did the president know?"
Leavitt: "Nothing."
Ossoff: “You refuse to answer a simple matter of the fact about the 2020 election.”
Clayton: “I’ve given you my answer.”
Ossoff: “What is your answer?”
Clayton: *doesn’t answer*
Ossoff: “Isn’t it humiliating to be unable to answer this question?”
Gallego: "Would you say that $600 million on a ballroom, half of which is paid for from American taxpayers, is that a good financial decision?"
Dennis: "I'm not getting involved in what the White House is doing."
Gallego: "As HUD CFO, this is literally the job."
@sarahlongwell25.bsky.social: "Todd Blanche has never stopped being Donald Trump's personal defense attorney. He doesn't know how to be America's highest law enforcement official. He doesn't know how to do that job — he only knows how to run interference for Donald Trump."
"I think the Epstein files are one of the main things that people should focus on for Blanche."
@sarahlongwell25.bsky.social and @billkristolbulwark.bsky.sociall on Todd Blanche's confirmation hearing this week.
Sen. Reed: "You were completely aware that the Strait of Hormuz could be closed?"
Hegseth: "We had U.S. boats that surrendered to Iranian ships under the Biden administration."
Sen. Reed: "Your fallback to the Biden administration is a very obvious excuse for what I think is...gross negligence."
“Their names were scratched off or taken off a list in the Pentagon. To me, it is abhorrent, it’s criminal.”
Lt. Gen. @markhertling.bsky.social (Ret.) fights back tears as he describes the military’s last roll call, and what it means to erase four fallen soldiers from the Pentagon’s casualty list.
Coons: "Did President Trump ever post on Truth Social directing your predecessor to prosecute his perceived political enemies?"
Blanche: "I don't think those were his exact words."
Coons: "Those were not his exact words, but clearly that was his intention."
"Two deeper structural reforms are essential. First, strip the executive of the massive powers that have accumulated over the last century. Second, make the powers retained by the executive subject to greater oversight with real consequences for abuse."
Susan Collins voted with Trump 90 percent of the time in his first term and 95 percent of the time in 2025, his comeback year. Now may not be a good time for a record like that.
Tapper: "I just looked at the State Department's website. They have a Level 4 'Do Not Travel' advisory for Haiti…That doesn't sound safe to me."
Mullin: "That advisory is to American citizens traveling to Haiti, not Haitians going back home."
Tapper: "It doesn't sound safe."
Epstein survivor Dani Bensky: "Todd Blanche spent approximately nine hours meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell, he did not even spend nine minutes meeting with a survivor…We need an AG committed to ensuring that everyone who facilitated Epstein's crimes is held accountable."
USAID saved lives. It follows almost by definition that abruptly gutting it kills people.
Sen. Mark Warner: "The only election that Trump is concerned about is 2020. That was the election that his administration was in charge of. As a matter of fact, Mr. Ratcliffe was DNI then. He's CIA director now. If there were mistakes made, why is he CIA director?"
Trump: "One of the things I talked to [Putin] about was 'Where would you want to meet?' And he said 'Ideally in Moscow.' I said 'You're not going to meet in Moscow.'…Would you go to Moscow?"
Zelensky: "It's difficult. There are a lot of Ukrainian drones there."
Whitehouse: "Why won't you tell us what became of the $50,000 in confidential money that the FBI reported that it gave to Tom Homan?"
Blanche: "I'm not aware of what you're speaking about."
Whitehouse: "The FBI reported giving $50,000 in the nature of a bribe to Tom Homan."
Marshall: "Americans don't feel that the elections are trustworthy."
Nobles: "Part of the problem is that President Trump keeps accusing election systems of not being fair and not being secure, but there's no actual evidence of that."
"Death squads rarely have body cams. Death squads rarely go unmasked."
@stuartpstevens.bsky.social chats with @timmiller.bsky.social about the accountability needed following ICE's killing of Lorenzo Araujo.
Deporting Haitian immigrants over the pet-eating hoax is the domestic corollary of gutting USAID over massively inflated accusations of fraud. The common thread is racism and an aggressive disregard for the truth.
Booker: "Did your interview with Miss Maxwell lead to a single additional person being charged?"
Blanche: "No."
Booker: "Did it lead to a single new investigation."
Blanche: "I can't answer the question."
Booker: "Were you involved with [Maxwell's] transfer?"
Blanche: *doesn't answer*
