Always great to see Sydney covered in pride this time of year - streets, public transport, shops, offices, everywhere!

Shout out to the recent upgrades to Crown St, Surry Hills. City of Sydney removed several car parks in favour of landscaped outdoor dining areas. Some were turning temporary ones from COVID permanent, others are new. It's a really great area to walk along and enjoy.

    Here's some before and after:

What a stupid waste of money.

$160m to provide one train's worth of capacity. There'll still be no spaces past 7am.

I was hoping NSW had moved past this, but so many people are being sold on living in sprawl and driving to metro. And the govt pretends it'll work.

Potential for over 16,000 new homes has been deleted from Bella Vista and Kellyville stations. Looks like Federal Labor MP Michelle Rowland got their wish? Her electorate across Old Windsor Rd has been completely removed from the rezoned area.

What a waste of a the best railway line in the country.

Patronage shows the real value of the Airport Line was not the airport. It was the development it enabled in the inner suburbs, with a heap of new housing added at the other 3 stations in the project. Plus it gave an extra track pair to bypass the congested Sydenham junction.

    Has hell frozen over?

You know metro has been a smashing success when even the Northern Beaches wants one

Did you know there's an abandoned half-built station in the eastern suburbs?

@sydney.yimby.au have launched a petition to have Woollarah Station finally built. The population in that area has been going backwards so it's a great opportunity for more TOD.

MARTIN PLACE, 2km from Central, is a large underground maze beneath the skyscrapers of the Sydney CBD. Arguably the jewel of Sydney Metro, it is two stations joined into a complex with 4 platforms, countless lifts and escalators, 3 concourses, two office towers and dozens of shops (LONG THREAD 1/13)

Happy first birthday to the Sydney CBD Metro. 🥳

Woollahra Council are having a massive sook over plans for more housing directly behind Edgecliff Station. They say one of the richest parts of the country has enough housing already, and moan about traffic and heritage.

    Have your say:

Metro patronage continuing to soar. Anecdotally, crowding in the morning has caused some people to go back to the slower Trains.

Not mentioned in the story: Metro has overtaken the T1 North Shore & Western line. It's now Australia's busiest railway line!

With the CBD Metro open, people are asking why is the station parking so inadequate? Parking means people far from line can use it, with less traffic from their longer drive to the city. Sounds great!

So why would a $21 billion project not be able to provide enough parking?⬇️1/8

As always, it's the wealthiest parts of the country that get the media coverage to push back on any supply of new housing.

Rose Bay, median house price $5.1 million.

What a shocker of a trackwork weekend, no trains thru the city except T4. How's that for planning!

City Circle closed. T2,T3 end at Strathfield. T8 ends at Sydenham or Central (map's wrong!)
    T1,T9 closed Central-Wynyard.
    Metro Closed.

Plus the new bridge at Sydenham is closed for some reason!

How far has construction gone on Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2?

Not very. But the route is going to be amazing once it's up and running.

Starting from the south end at the Carter St stop, Lidcombe. Already new TODs going up. Civil works underway but I don't think they're LR related. (1/6)

Also: Council plan to remove cars from the George St end of Hunter St and reduce the rest from four lanes to one.

Sydney is in a virtuous cycle of building transit and removing road space, enabling both better access to transit and removal of even more road space.

    How to actually beat traffic!

  19. 25

Lots of talk around the place on how Sydney Metro is smashing it with patronage. It's just one (incomplete) line, and it's already 1-in-5 rail trips in Sydney and the third busiest operator in the country.

    Truly transformative!
