It's great that turnout here seems high, but a long line is also a sign of voter suppression because Ohio's GOP limited early voting to just 1 site per county regardless of population.
Franklin County's 1.3 million people (heavily Dem) & Vinton County's 12,000 people (heavily GOP) each get 1 site
This. The court may even pair the release of the ruling in favor of birthright citizenship with the one gutting the Voting Rights Act, and the usual suspects will proclaim it’s a sign of moderation
Courts had deemed Republican gerrymanders illegal in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Ohio several months before the 2022 elections.
The Supreme Court and other courts let the GOP use those maps anyway, and it handed them the House.
Now SCOTUS is doing the opposite thing for the same goal
Big news in the fight against GOP gerrymanders:
Missouri group announces that local officials have verified enough voter signatures to suspend the new GOP congressional map until a veto referendum takes place.
But GOP officials are trying to drag out the process to thwart it, & litigation is going

NEW: Virginia Dem legislators have passed their new 10-1 congressional map targeting 4 Republicans. Gov. Spanberger will likely sign it soon.
It would take effect for 2026 if voters pass it in an April 21 referendum (litigation pending).

Happy 250, America!
BREAKING: Indiana Republicans FAILED to pass a new 9-0 congressional gerrymander after enough GOP senators sided with Dems. The GOP's 7-2 map stays in place.
Trump is trying to re-gerrymander maps nationwide. At least 11 Indiana Rs got death threats after he called for primaries—but it still failed
Thune says the quiet part out loud about the filibuster. Democrats can just quote this when they finally win a majority willing to abolish it
NEW: Virginia just passed a law to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, giving it 222 of 270 electoral votes needed to activate.
This map and spreadsheet show which states could join to activate it by 2028 depending on the outcome of the 2026 elections docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
Orban consolidated power by making the electoral system less proportional and gerrymandering districts of very unequal sizes.
That gave Orban supermajorities when the opposition was divided and less popular—but it turned an opposition landslide into a supermajority that can now dismantle the regime
Dems winning in Virginia will directly lead to thousands regaining the right to vote.
Spanberger can reverse GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin's reinstatement of a Jim Crow-era lifetime voting ban for felonies.
Dem lawmakers can also put a constitutional amendment on next year's ballot to permanently end it
Also, Cuomo almost single-handedly cost Dems the House.
He let the GOP gerrymander NY’s Senate to thwart progressives, pushed through an amendment to try to block future Dem maps, & chose conservative judges who blocked Dems from gerrymandering after 2020 while the GOP ruthlessly drew TX, FL, etc.
Democrats can retaliate against these GOP gerrymanders with new maps in Illinois, Maryland, Oregon, & Virginia.
They could flip 7 GOP seats to make up for this & new GOP maps in Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, & possibly soon Indiana.
Imposing costs is the only way to deter the GOP from doing this
Alabama’s lieutenant governor, who also serves as president of the state Senate, posted a 7-0 Republican gerrymander calling for his party to eliminate both Black Democrats.
Every seat on a map like this would be dark red and heavily white
NBC calls the Illinois Senate Dem primary for Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton.
2027 is on track to have three Black women as senators, a new record from the current two.
Only five Black women have ever been senators (four elected outright and one appointed). Three years ago there were zero in the Senate

When people say the South gets what it deserves for voting Republican, remind them that:
1) 45% of Southerners voted for Biden. Trump only won 53% there
2) Half of America’s Black population lives in the South
3) The region has widespread gerrymandering & restrictive voting laws
"You can only challenge the racial gerrymander if you preserve the partisan gerrymander that was the reason for the racial gerrymander" is tortured logic befitting Redemption or Jim Crow.
The court effectively deemed the VRA and the 15th Amendment unconstitutional while pretending they didn't
One board member said the FBI approached some without warrants.
“They had agents all across the state going to civil rights leaders and community leaders’ doors intimidating them, coming and demanding that they talk about literally anything they would ask.”
“Just straight-up intimidation tactics.”
SCOTUS in 2022:
Five months before Election Day is too late for Louisiana to redraw its GOP House map that harms Black voters. It must wait until 2024.
SCOTUS in 2026:
Louisiana may cancel its imminent primary—where >40,000 already voted—to enact basically the same old map that harms Black voters
Emails obtained via public records requests reveal a network of Republican election officials in Georgia are coordinating on strategies to overturn the results of the 2024 elections
Liberals easily hold their Wisconsin Supreme Court majority, & Elon Musk fails spectacularly despite illegally bribing voters.
Republicans underperform Trump by 16-22 points in Florida's special elections.
Sen. Cory Booker's record-breaking 24+ hour filibuster energizes Dems.
A bad day for GOP.
Maine has voted in a landslide to reject a Republican-supported ballot initiative that would have restricted voting access heading into the critical 2026 midterms
