I'm old enough to remember that after the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook started doing "privacy popups" in 2018 where they told people that they cared about their privacy and user consent.

    Well, lmao.

FIFA taking in $8 billion in revenue but asking for balls back from the crowd like it’s a Sunday league game with three knockoff jabulanis around the field. Treat them like foul balls you cheap freaks.

For all the platitudes and window dressing from the company over the years about safety, privacy and consent, it appears that it's north star is — as it has always been — growth, growth, growth.

Why not make an AI feature like this opt-in? Because it would hamper the spread of the feature.

I've always been annoyed by this framing — this time in @status.news — of news simply "emerging" or Thiel willingly telling everyone that he funded the Gawker suit (as they link to in this piece.)

The news "emerged" because we broke it at Forbes. And then Thiel had to admit to it.

starship's test flight 13 also just aborted for the day as it was set to launch. unclear what caused the pause, but it's not happening today.

bad day for spacex and musk.

at tesla, musk got upset with the wild swings in the public market's valuation of the company. in 2018, he threatened to take the company private.

now that spacex is public, this phenomena will play out once again after days like today. the question is whether musk will resist the urge to lash out.

Kind of incredible that the company that wanted to use AI to help rich people combat unfavorable media stories has completely pivoted to essentially yelp for journalists, which is hardly a new idea
