I have a piece in the NYT today arguing that the law should permit victims of ICE abuse to sue not just individual officers, but supervisors and policymakers like Stephen Miller and Gregory Bovino.

A Democratic president and Congress could do this in 2029. And they could make it retroactive.

Rufo did not "try to figure out if" it's true." He gleefully amplified the lie, then offered a bounty to anyone who could retroactively "prove" it.

It spurred death threats. Thousands will soon be deported because of it. Many of them will die.

They're continuing to kill people because this administration has told them that the people they're apprehending -- and those who defend them -- deserve violence, that no amount of violence is too much, and that no matter how egregious the abuse, they'll never be held accountable.

The ICE agents who threatened a Syracuse poll worker for an Instagram post warned a Rochester man in an unsettling way.

They aren't claiming the officer feared for his life, but "feared for public safety" when Guerrero attempted to flee. But he was not the target of the warrant. Which means they had no reason to think he was dangerous.

Fleeing an immigration stop does not make you a threat to public safety.

What makes Ossoff’s confrontation so compelling here is his emphasis on how Trump’s makes anyone who wants to work for him publicly degrade themselves. We need more of that. Ask them why they’re willing to humiliate themselves for a fragile, 80-year-old bigot.

This isn't tenable. Should be a prereq for Democrats: Create a way to hold federal law enforcement officers civilly liable. Make it retroactive. Do the same for policymakers like Noem, Mullin, and Miller, whose unconstitutional directives are predictably ruining lives and wreaking destruction.

It should probably go without saying, but if you for any reason are calling for a public policy that involves sterilizing people, it's time to take a step back and ask yourself where the fuck you went wrong.
