I took my oldest friend, best bud from high school, to see Motor City at an early morning show today, because it was the kind of movie we'd have seen together on a Friday immediately after school was out. He loved it as much as I did. Not many people in the theater -- maybe a dozen.

My friend and I also caught up (hadn't seen each other in a year) and agreed that there were a lot of aspects of getting older that we didn't think would be so central to daily life. Like fiber. And 'regularity." Laugh now, young ones. Your roughage time will come.

This friend was one of my primary influences as a moviegoer. Really widened my taste. He got me into Sergio Leone, Martin Scorsese, Orson Welles (beyond Kane), Fassbinder, and Hong Kong action cinema. As long as we both live, he's got a place to stay,

It was as good as I thought it was, BTW. And barely having any dialogue let it fly through the story and not wear out its welcome.

The "letters of transit" in Casablanca are completely made up, and the rest of th movie is historically questionable at best, but that's why they call it drama!
