Two years ago, my colleagues and I were sued by Stephen Miller's America First Legal. The Hines v Stamos case — built atop a number of false allegations — was a central element of the "censorship industrial complex" myth. Today, that case was dismissed (by a Trump judge in LA). We won.

Those allegations did tremendous damage — to our reputations, to grant funding for work in our field, to the broader discourse about what "free speech" means and whose speech is protected. The team who did this work at Stanford was dissolved. Our funding took a big hit. But our work at UW continues.

Profoundly sad (and angry) about today's SCOTUS ruling against transgender athletes. The bigotry and racism of several recent rulings are hard to absorb. My heart goes out to transgender people and their families, especially the parents of transgender kids (I know many). I feel your sadness today.

In anticipation of Trump's press conference on alleged election interference tomorrow, we're doing an early release of our "Rigged Election" Bingo game. Which worn out tropes will he and his operatives roll out (again) tomorrow? Create your own card to play along. bingo.cip.uw.edu/s/92d3739d-2...

Klip’s bullshit Intercept story helped launch the “censorship industrial complex” narrative that helped rewrite Jan 6 and Covid, and fueled Trump’s 2024 campaign. He never acknowledged how wrong he and his co-author were… about any of it. Mike has the receipts. I have the scars.

In honor of the WNBA All-Star game & the Navy sailors assembling for the Seattle torchlight parade below my window, I want to share one of my favorite WNBA memories: 7'2" Margo Dydek flirting, quite successfully, with a group of sub-6' uniformed sailors after a game against the Portland Fire ~2001.

This one is important. The Trump administration is attempting via various levers to create chaos for mail-in voting. In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court shuts down one of these attempts, allowing states to continue to count ballots that were mailed before or on Election Day, even if they arrive later

Just realized this case was launched THREE years ago. The PTSD is real, y’all. I lost time.

“But claiming vulnerabilities in voting systems exist is different from claiming vulnerabilities in voting systems have been exploited, & even further distinct from claiming vulnerabilities in voting systems have been exploited during live election operations…” to rig past elections.

The Trump regime has long worked to manufacture evidence to retroactively justify their "rigged election" claims (and Jan 6). Their next drop, scheduled for this Thursday, will attempt to make the case for foreign interference. It's all so predictable at this point... www.cnbc.com/2026/07/13/t...

The 2026 election denialism strategy: Change the rules, create chaos and uncertainty, tilt the playing field in their favor, work the refs (election officials and certifiers), and deny result they don’t like.

Strange quote from her, considering in the article, her family celebrates her competing against — and physically besting — boys (when she was young). Also strange that the journalist didn't point out the hypocrisy, no?

Scene: On the couch, my dog stares out the window down from our condo, stressed. I assume she's watching the marching bands warming up in the street below. I sit beside her to take in the scene. On a balcony below us, a neighbor struggles to dislodge a seagull who has commandeered the barbecue.
