If you receive an illegal order, you have a duty to disobey.

This isn’t controversial.

A President calling for the execution of anyone who reminds service members of this oath is showing us why the duty to disobey illegal orders is so important in the first place.

Best case: The President of the United States knew about a pedophilia ring and did nothing to stop it.

Medium case: He also used his office to protect the perpetrators.

Worst case: Because he was one of the perpetrators.

Really hard to imagine becoming a trillionaire and not wanting to immediately liquidate enough assets to give at least a few hundred billion to organizations making the world a better place.

You know that scene in an action movie when the bad guy runs through the kitchen of a restaurant and pulls down all the pots and pans behind him to slow down his pursuers? We're in that part of the Trump presidency.

Remember:

It can be sad. It can be tragic. It can be disgusting and depressing and discouraging.

But it doesn’t have to mean this is who we are now. It’s what our country is doing right now and that’s not the same as who we are.

Who we are isn’t up to him.

The President of the United States is pretty relaxed about the rest of us experiencing economic disruption so long as the world’s richest man can keep selling overpriced cars assembled for him by underpaid workers who get fired when they attempt to unionize.

Purposely wrecking the economy and expecting people to be happy about it is the definition of out of touch.

One indicator you’re not Nobel Peace Prize material is if the country which hosts the totally independent Nobel committee believes you’re gonna retaliate against them because you didn’t win.

When they fire the Chair of the Joint Chiefs and the Chief of the Navy next week, they’ll use words like DEI.

The left will chalk it up to racism and sexism.

But that’s only part of it.

Mostly they just want people who they believe will carry out illegal or unethical orders.

A friend of mine is a cop who was once run over by a suspect’s car. I texted him and asked him to tell me that story again and if he’d mind sharing what he thought about the killing of Renee Good. He gave me permission to share with you what he texted back.

When children are starving to death, you do everything in your power to feed them.

It’s not complicated.

Feed starving kids. No matter what.

Really glad none of the people calling American cities “war zones” were with us in Afghanistan. Would’ve become tiresome constantly hosing them down after they soiled themselves.

Say what you want about the VA (and most criticism has been wrongly aimed at VA instead of Congress) …

But no one has ever said the problem with the VA is too many people work there.

Every official in those signal chats has a SCIF room at their office.

After ordering service members into harm’s way, Operational Security wasn’t a good enough reason for them to suffer the inconvenience of staying at the office until the mission was completed.

Putin and Russia are the bad guys.

Zelensky and Ukraine are the good guys.

Trump has us siding with the bad guys.

This is like if Roosevelt told Churchill that if he’d just let Hitler have the rest of Europe, everything will be fine.

In the space of a few minutes, he left behind Afghan allies who fought terrorists alongside American soldiers and let 1500 domestic terrorists out of jail.

Aside from the extremely dubious question of whether the occupants of the Venezuelan boat even qualified as “combatants,” ordering a second strike from an aircraft for the sole purpose of killing defenseless people was absolutely an illegal order.

Cape Verde is the size of Kansas City.

I promise you there’s hardly a person in that country that doesn’t personally know at least one player on that team.

Can you imagine how proud they must be of them?

I understand the argument for how Israel’s national interest was advanced in this war.

I do not in any way see how our interests were anything but severely harmed.

Would be a shame if Americans flooded this email address to make it harder to destroy inclusion programs.

President Zelensky is one of the most impressive leaders we’ve ever seen.

If I “inadvertently” rendered a Nazi salute, I’d be sick to my stomach.

I’d be devastated about the bedtime conversations I forced Jewish parents to have, trying to reassure frightened kids.

I wouldn’t laugh it off, and if I could laugh it off, it would mean it wasn’t inadvertent at all.
