Being slightly charitable, I expect Scott’s point is that it’s something of a feat for the subject of an obituary to outlive the writer of that obituary.

This is long overdue. I've frequently characterized the state of Windows as a weight around the necks of PC OEMs, as well as AMD and Intel, recommending a look toward new markets (SteamOS licensing, for example) to forge a path forward not dependent on Microsoft.

Why would this be a problem? They’ve clearly got the… space for them.

Last week, I had the opportunity to see Microsoft’s Majorana 1 QPU in person in a lab tour and presentation with the scientists working on topological qubits. It’s an amazing achievement, and a testament to persistence.

I'm sure at some point the association with Tor ("The Onion Router") became a problem... the rebrand was probably overdue.

Chances are a lot of the employees will wind up at a conveniently named startup called ToSoftware.

(Maybe a bit of wishcasting, but there’s precedent, sort of.)
