the infuriating thing is that a camera is critical for the most useful things that AR goggles can do (real-time translation) and the perverts have wrecked it

I think the difference between emplaced cameras and a surreptitious recording device is pretty obvious. And people are going to think you're a weird pervert if you bring surreptitious recording equipment into the bathroom, whether it is emplaced or not

nah, we know. but that doesn't mean they're lying. they can just be full of it instead.

most probably believe what they're peddling. why wouldn't they? on one hand you have the all-enmeshing epistemic closure they live in and on the other is their stack of stock options.

    who wouldn't buy it then?

I'd like to think I wouldn't. And I am a natural contrarian. But these guys have massive comp packages, all their friends have bought the same stuff, and they have a pile of faceless glazers on Twitter when they mouth Yud noises. It is surely seductive!

And able-bodied users have pissed in the pool! It has already happened. Disabled folks are not the target, they are collateral damage. That sucks but it's a different thing.

"but phones have cameras" -- true! and two things work in their favor. one is that it's relatively hard to use them for video purposes without the screen being visible. doable, but very difficult. the other is that cell phones without cameras predate those with

I liked the Compagnon Element 12L sling enough that I bought their 20L camera backpack.

It’s good. I should learn to pack lighter, but it's good.

To this end, the way to work this out (if it can be) is going to start by figuring out how to make these devices useful without alarm-raising capabilities, and then maybe with good behavior that'll open up. Maybe! I don't think we know.

I literally have three cameras in my backpack right now as I write this and nobody is surprised if one of them is on. people have an expectation that you aren't recording them surreptitiously through glasses. please don't be weird
