I may be tired and a little hoarse, but as I said again and again on the Senate floor, this is a moment where we cannot afford to be silent, when we must speak up.
Senator Padilla was driven violently to his knees–as if made to kneel before the authority of the executive–because the administration called his questions “disrespectful”.
This should offend not just the other 99 Senators. It should offend the conscience of this country.
Accepting a private jumbo-jet from a foreign nation is a clear violation of our Constitution, which plainly prohibits U.S. officials from accepting gifts from foreign governments.
This isn’t right. Masked individuals raiding small businesses are endangering our communities, not making them safer.
We must not stop speaking up.
Hearing so many powerful voices–from American families to congressional leaders–has left me filled with hope for the fights and work ahead.
This is a moral moment. It is not left or right, it is right or wrong.
“Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the president.”
— Theodore Roosevelt
The attack on Josh Shapiro and his family did not happen in a vacuum.
Incendiary rhetoric, purposeful disinformation — it all helped lead to this hateful and destructive act. Leaders need to be conscious of their words having consequences.
The disclosure of highly classified information in a group chat wasn’t just some one-off security failure.
It was a window into how this Administration operates: with incompetence, recklessness, contempt for the truth, & a reflexive impulse to try to cover things up.
I'll explain🧵
I’m heading to the Senate floor because Donald Trump and Elon Musk have shown a complete disregard for the rule of law, the Constitution, and the needs of the American people. You can tune in on CSPAN, YouTube, X, and Facebook.
This level of conflict of interest and lack of transparency is unprecedented and rife with opportunity for self-enrichment.
This is unacceptable.
We must stand up and speak out, not because something is left or right, but if it is right or wrong.
Trump and Musk are eliminating 90% of Social Security’s regional staff—and, at the same time, will now only post public updates from Social Security on a platform owned by Musk, where more than 90% of seniors won’t see them. Corrupt, cruel, and wrong.
What’s most clear to me tonight is that this is just the beginning, that Americans across this country, no matter their title or party, are ready to be heard.
I believe that history will show we rose to meet this moment.
The brave men and women who serve our nation deserve to be led by people who know what they are doing.
This is not who we are. We must join together to call this out, to make more people understand what is happening and work to stop it.
Public broadcasters like PBS and NPR give every American access to culture, history, art, and trusted journalism. They’re a cornerstone of civic life.
Defunding them does a disservice to us all, especially in rural communities.
We must defend them.
