Probably more helpful to think of them not so much as “Canadian wildfires” but rather “climate change wildfires currently consuming Canada”

There’s never been anyone whose involvement more completely and immediately poisons vibes and destroys joy. No good thing survives contact.

There is still time to submit your comment and tell the government that you don't want US research to be completely destroyed by politicians meddling in individual grants. You can submit your comments here: www.regulations.gov/commenton/OM...

It’s surprisingly hard to convince otherwise reasonable people to take lightning danger seriously. When I was at Princeton, I had to argue MORE THAN ONCE with the rest of the astrophysics dept softball team that we shouldn’t be waving metal bats around in an open field when we could hear thunder 😑

My upcoming book is absolutely packed to the brim with em dashes—more em dashes than any well-adjusted human being could possibly need or want—and if any of you tries to claim they are the result of some soulless LLM rather than my own unhinged compulsion I will fight you.

Everyone gets fooled sometimes, but if you credulously post an image or video that people reply to tell you is fake/AI-generated and you leave it up anyway (because “it’s still funny” or whatever) you’re making the misinformation problem worse and will be blocked immediately.

The Large Hadron Collider is shutting down but when it comes back it will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine! 💥

Looking forward to the High-Luminosity LHC (technically more *luminous,* in the sense of having way more proton collisions, rather than necessarily more powerful) in 2030!

ABC Australia has a YouTube series called “You Can’t Ask That” in which they bring in people from various marginalized/stereotyped groups who have volunteered to answer “inappropriate” questions. I’m sure they aren’t fully representative but they do foster empathy & I think they’re generally great.

It’s such a bummer. Online/asynchronous/virtual teaching can be incredibly valuable and with a little extra structure can be an amazing and scalable resource but now AI has rendered the whole enterprise impossible.

In my neighborhood there’s a public square with a big screen where they are broadcasting what must be nearly every one of the World Cup games and each game draws a crowd and every team has people from that country cheering them on and it’s just a really lovely thing that makes me love the city more.

Good morning,Ontario, the sky looks like armageddon and the air smells like a campfire where you were burning something you really shouldn’t. Be careful out there. 😷

I am from LA and my grandma was Mexican so of course I am rooting for Mexico but going solely by the real-time reactions online I am also sort of rooting for the game to continue to be as chaotic and unhinged as possible
